Midnight Thoughts #4: Hunger

Most, if not all, of us are hungry for something; we have wants and desires. I see it everyday. I see it in the tired eyes on the bus, forced smiles in public places, the haste in people’s step- all driven by something they’re chasing. I think it’s healthy to be moved by a vision, a goal. It shows that there’s some life in your soul. While that’s a good thing, I also believe that sometimes we’re deceived to think we’re driving when in truth we’re being pushed by something that has blinded us by placing our so called desire right in front of our eyes so that we can’t see the direction in which we’re headed. We can’t see the destination. You may think that beautiful image in your head is the end, you’re so focused on it that you don’t realize you’re being robbed of equally or even more precious possessions.

I think a deceptive thought that some people have is that, if there’s no desire to harm anyone, it’s all good. What really is the harm in desiring better for your family and friends? None. What really is the harm in desiring luxury for yourself? None. What’s the harm in just wanting to live a simple quiet life? None. My question is, are you being guided on the journey there or are you being pushed into it? Are you blinded by the picture?

The enemy is here to steal, kill and destroy so if this drive has brought more destruction than building up, I think you should take a step back and re-evaluate. One thing I know a lot of people desire is wealth- the definition of it may vary but wealth nonetheless. We want to be able to do things and go places without the limitation of lack of funds or inability to meet needs. Again I ask, at what cost? And the thing that guides you, is it out to bless and replenish or take and extort?

”The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, without painful toil for it.“
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭10‬:‭22‬ ‭NIV‬‬

”And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.“
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭19‬:‭29‬ ‭NIV‬‬
